Introduction
I am a young emerging contemporary artist who currently lives in Cairns, Australia. After completing my Certificate IV in Clothing Production in Brisbane of 2004, I offically started creating art when I moved to Cairns and enrolled in a Dipolma of Visual Arts at T.A.F.E. 2005. Once I complete my diploma in 2007, I wish to pursue further education at university to study a Bachelor of Education/Bachelor of Fine Arts to teach High School Art.
Style
My work is a fusion of contemporary painting and design concepts, mixed with my passion for stencils, prints, fabric, patterns and colour. I love working with various media and experimenting with acrylic and gouache painting, drawing mixed media and collage, to printmaking. However my focus is more on my decorative style of painting; focusing on the subject matter and the idea behind the works, simplisticity, minimalism, and vibrant colours, not to mention adding prints where suitable. I do not restrict myself to just one art medium as I am still exploring all my possibilities and finding different directions on the way. Nor do I restrict myself to just working in the fine arts, I also enjoy most arts and crafts including jewellery making, sewing and fashion design in my spare time.
Inspiration
Just as my style is diverse, so are my influences for creating art. Taking in as much as I can about Art History and my influencing surrounds, these things have greatly influenced me. A huge contribution to my style is owed to the art movement of Pop Art, including artists Andy Warhol and Roy Litchenstein, for the clean sharp blocks of colour and unique technique. Along with the art period of Impressionism including artists like Monet and Van Gogh using painterly marks and vibrant colours, are just an inspiration in itself. Toulouse-Lautrec for his style of prints, and many more traditional and contemporay artists.
Other inspiration and influences comes from attending art exhibitions and events, researching from photographs and other contemporary artists, looking at fashion and interior magazines and my local surrounds of the Tropics.
